The Polish Frizzle was created in Holland by Mr Airie Bolan. His inspiration came from a painting by Van Gink, a famous artist. It started with the use of long legged Japanese Bantam Frizzle. It took several years to create but, between 1989 and 1991, the Polish Frizzle became recognized giving us a superb new breed. Today the popularity of the Polish Frizzle is extremely high and is now also standardized by the British Poultry Club.

There has to be a better way of providing meat to American families than this. I don't understand how these companies are getting away with it. It's just awful. Tyson chicken is one of KFC's biggest suppliers. Tyson also supplies meat to Taco Bell and most other fast food joints including McDonald's, Burger King, Wendy's, Walmart, Kroger, Costco, IGA, some small restaurants, and prisons.

Cuckoo Maran

Also known as chocolate eggers this breed was developed in France in the mid 1800's in the town for which it bears it's name, Maran. They quickly became very popular for their very dark brown eggs. The CUCKOO variety of Maran resembles the Barred Rock in color. Marans lay the darkest eggs of any other breed. The males reach a weight of 7 lbs. at maturity and the females are 6 lbs.

Araucana "The Easter Egg Chicken"

This breed originated from an Indian tribe in Chile. They are best known for their ability to lay colored eggs. The colors range from turquoise, deep olive, to shades of brown. They come in all different color variations and color patterns. They are extremely hardy birds. They have pea combs which help protect them from frostbite in the colder months. Baby chicks come in all different colors, plain and fancy, just like the adults. The mature male weighs 5 lbs and the female weighs 4 lbs.

Brown Leghorns

Developed in Italy in the 1800's, the Leghorn is one of the more well known breeds of poultry in America today. Like all members of the Leghorn family(white, brown, and red leghorns and also the rose comb leghorn) the Brown Leghorn will lay white eggs and are non-setters. The rooster is very colorful with orange hackle and saddle and black stripes in the center of each feather. The hen is medium brown, her breast is a salmon color, and her wings are a darker shade of brown. Chicks will have the appearance of little chipmunks with dark stripes around their eyes and down their backs. The mature weight of a male Leghorn is 6 lbs and the female weighs 4.5 lbs.

Barred Rocks

Barred Rocks were developed in New England in the early 1800's. They are now one of the all time favorites in the USA. With long broad bodies, yellow skin, and solid plumpness, these hens are not discouraged by cold weather. They are layers of brown eggs, and are average setters. Baby chicks are dark gray to black with some patches of white on body and head. The weight of a mature male is 9.5 lbs and the female is 7.5 lbs.

Silver Laced Wyandottes

The Silver Laced is a great example of the ingenuity of American poultry breeding. It is the original Wyandotte. Other varieties were developed from it later with crosses of other breeds. The hardiness and vigor of this bird keeps it laying straight through winter. They are layers of large eggs ranging from light brown to a very rich brown color, and they may set some. Baby chicks vary from a light silver gray to almost black in appearance, and some may have contrasting light and dark stripes on their backs. The weight of a mature male is 8.5 lbs and the female is 6.5 lbs.

A little off topic today, but I came across this flyer at http://www.cok.net/.This website exposes the truths behind the egg industry.They stuff these poor birds into these tiny cages, usually more than one bird to a cage. It's awful what egg industries are doing to chickens just to make a buck. I'm thankful for having my own chickens that I collect eggs from. HAPPY chickens that can actually go outside and scratch in the dirt. Enjoy sunshine. Be able to flap their wings. Nest, brood, and forage like all chickens should be able to do. I will never again buy store bought eggs!

Possibly due to their restricted vision, they are very quiet and gentle birds. They are layers of white eggs and are non-setters.The weight of a mature male is 6 lbs. and the female is 4.5 lbs.

White Leghorns

The very best white egg layer! These hens start laying at about 4 1/2 to 5 months of age. They also continue laying 10 to 12 weeks longer than most good layers. Farmers ask for this hen by name because they lay quality eggs, top grade and size, good shell and uniform shape, and they do all this on the least amount of feed and the smallest amount of space. The adult male weighs 6 lbs. and the female weighs 4.5 lbs.
